Heavy metal band Firstborne have released a high energy visualizer for their song “Roll the Dice” off of their self-titled debut EP released earlier this year.
The supergroup consists of members already supremely well known in the metal industry. Chris Adler (former drummer for Lamb of God), James LoMenzo (former bassist for Megadeth), Girish Pradhan (vocalist for Girish and The Chronicles) and Myrone, a solo guitarist who pioneered “soft shred,” came together to form a riveting lineup of creative powerhouses.
Their new sound is one not reminiscent of their past works but provides fresh insight into their capabilities. With a riff-centered rock vibe, the group is sticking with their heavy metal sensibilities with surprising new twists. The visualizer for “Roll the Dice” embodies the classic metal base combined with the experimentation that Firstborne is aiming for. Glitchy rendering and effects help push the song forward and compliment the substantial instruments accompanied by soaring vocals.
Adler explains how “Roll the Dice” is just another example of the musical freedom he is gaining within Firstborne. He calls the track “another unexpected turn musically that I could not have done before.”
He goes further in-depth, explaining how “it’s the perfect song to drive fast with the windows down air drumming on your wheel. Somewhat ironically, it speaks to how those memorable moments can turn to tragedy,” moving in a darker direction reflective of the serious undertones of the track. “We only go around this thing once and as Elvis Costello and, bizarrely, the Meatmen best said it back in the day, ‘accidents will happen, you don’t know when, accidents are waiting around the bend.’ Enjoy what you have left.”
Despite the melancholy layering, “Roll the Dice” gives an exciting peek into the caliber of music we can expect from the group with more content set to release later this year. LoMenzo describes the track as “an energetic snapshot of what Firstborne is all about. Shutting out self-doubt, shutting down fear and just going for it!”
