Torres announces new album ‘Silver Tongue,’ shares new single “Good Scare”

Torres (aka Mackenzie Scott) has just officially announced that her new album Silver Tongue will be headed our way on January 31. It’ll be her fourth overall record, and first for Merge Records. The announcement comes just a few months after she had shared the good news of her signing with the label. She had previously signed with 4AD, but was abruptly dropped after her last album, 2017’s Three Futures, was deemed “not commercially successful enough.” Although the fallout was kind of messy, Torres has picked up the pieces and moved on to a presumably better home. And we’re thrilled she’s coming back so soon.

Alongside the announcement of Silver Tongue, Torres has shared the lead-off single “Good Scare.” Like with much of her music, the new track overflows with atmosphere, due largely to her incredible vocal presence. It also kind of harkens back to the style she played around with on 2015’s breakthrough album Sprinter.

Speaking about the track’s themes, Scott shared this statement:

“I guess I could say that falling in love is a lot like the Superman crawl. If you’re not familiar with Superman’s crawl, it’s a terrifying maneuver used in spelunking that’s only performed when certain passages are too narrow, so a person has to hold one arm against the body and the other above the head, all while trying to crawl forward. When you fall in love with someone, it’s scary like the Superman’s crawl, but you have no choice but to keep moving forward even though you have no idea what’s ahead of you.”

Give a listen to “Good Scare” right below here. And just beyond that, you’ll find the album art and track list for Silver Tongue along with the full list of her upcoming tour dates.
