Adrianne Lenker announces new album ‘abysskiss,’ shares new song “cradle”

Adrianne Lenker has spent the past couple of years fronting the great band Big Thief, but now she’s ready to present some new solo material. Announced today, Lenker’s new album will be titled abysskiss and is set to be released October 5 via Saddle Creek Records. The new project comes just a year after the last Big Thief album, which incidentally came a year after the Big Thief debut. Since Lenker started up that band, she’s seen her profile rise quite a bit. But, she did in fact start out with a quietly released solo album back in 2014.

abysskiss (yes, stylized in lowercase – as are all the song titles) is not a project that will see a handful of outtakes or b-sides that didn’t make it onto Big Thief’s two phenomenal records. Instead, it’s very much its own thing. Songs have been making their way onto this record for a couple of years, but some were written right before Lenker headed into the studio. The entire album was recorded in just a week with Luke Temple (Here We Go Magic) producing.

Alongside the album announcement, Adrianne Lenker has also shared a new song. “cradle” is the first single from the project and sees Lenker turning down her more rock side and turning up her folkier tendencies. It’s a gorgeous, sparse song that showcases Lenker’s incredible songwriting ability and her always captivating voice. Give a listen below, and then check out the album art and full tracklist for abysskiss just below that.
