UK-based trio, Kero Kero Bonito has returned with the three song EP, Civilization II. A follow up to 2019’s Civilization I, the EP crafts mythical narratives atop a genre bending blend of pop and progressive house. Continuing the group’s processing of the weight of global warming, colonialism, and contemporary life, Civilization II takes on the emotional experience of the past, present, and future.
The lead track, “The Princess and the Clock,” tells the story of a princess hidden away who is discovered to be gone by her admirers. The song combines power pop chords with nostalgic, analog synth. Released as a single in February, the accompanying video for the release features watercolor animation by Dan W Jacobs.

The following track “21/04/20” and “Well Rested” again step away from the group’s hyperpop roots with a more understated, analog approach to the group’s sound. “21/04/20” is a laid-back detailing of the everyday, complete with another video collaboration with Dan W Jacobs. “Well Rested,” a prophetic progressive house track, closes the EP with a detailing of the resurrection and end times.
