Evanescence shares video for “The Game Is Over”

Gothic metal band Evanescence has just dropped a surreal music video for their new single “The Game Is Over.” Filmed entirely on an iPhone, the visual for this single makes use of the group’s limited materials during this time of quarantine.

With the help of director P.R. Brown, this video acts as a perfectly creepy accompaniment to the energy Evanescence is trying to put into their upcoming work. “The Game Is Over” is the second single Evanescence have released from their upcoming studio album The Bitter Truth set to release later this year. The first single released was “Wasted On You” that also features a quarantine-made music video.

Evanescence is embracing the current period of self produced artistry. The Bitter Truth is going to showcase the group’s first collection of original songs in nearly a decade. In expressing the emotion behind the song, vocalist Amy Lee explained:

“This song is about being sick of the facade. The disguises we wear for others to make them feel comfortable, the inside feelings being so different than what we show on the outside to fit within the boundaries of what’s socially acceptable, or what’s not going to make you unpleasant or too ‘weird’ to be around.”

Lee also explains that this song is “a prayer to become better, to not feel so messed up, locked up, and hurt inside.” As promises are made to embrace the odd nature within oneself, “The Game Is Over” gives a perfect representation of not censoring the creative desires of an artist.
