Jay Som announces collaboration EP with Justus Proffit, ‘Nothing’s Changed’

Jay Som (Melina Duterte) last released some new music very early this year with a pair of one-off singles. It was following up last year’s successful full length album Everybody Works. And now, she’s delivering even more new music in the form of a collaborative EP.

The new EP is titled Nothing’s Changed and sees Duterte teaming up with the up-and-coming singer-songwriter Justus Proffit. It’s due out September 28 through Polyvinyl Records. The two originally met up when Duterte moved to Los Angeles, where Proffit resides. He reached out to ask if she’d be willing to write a song together just for fun. Naturally, that session turned into the recording of 5 original tracks. Duterte plays bass and keyboard on all the songs while Proffit wrote the lyrics and played drums. The two also trade-off guitar and vocal duties.

Ahead of the EP release, Jay Som and Justus Proffit have shared the opening title track “Nothing’s Changed.” The song is a short, ambling rock song that features Proffit on lead vocals while Duterte comes in with some backing vocal work. Give it a listen down below. And check out the album art and tracklist for Nothing’s Changed just below that.
