Mac DeMarco starts up his own record label, announces solo tour

Mac DeMarco has always kept very, very busy. Since first starting up his music career, he’s released a host of EPs, mini-albums, demo collections, and three solidly good studio records. For much of that time he was signed to the little label Captured Tracks. But now Mac has decided to go out totally on his own with the start of his new record label.

Announced yesterday, Mac DeMarco has started up an indie label run by himself. It’s called Mac’s Record Label (cause of course). He hasn’t mentioned any specific plans with what he wants to do with this label, or why precisely he started it. But one can imagine it’s to be free to release anything and everything he thinks of, and maybe to sign some undiscovered talent. The label is being distributed through Caroline International.

But that’s not the only news of Mac DeMarco going out on his own. For he’s also shared that he’s setting off a new solo tour (that is, without any band accompaniment) this Fall. The tour is being dubbed The Purple Bobcat Next To River Tour. It’ll come right off the heels of his current tour behind last year’s new album This Old Dog.
