As we get ready to wrap up April 2021, many artists are continuing to release projects. Here’s some highlights from the week, with new albums from icons like Paul McCartney and Snoop Dogg:

Zoe Wees- “Ghost”

Up-and-comer Zoe Wees was featured on Apple Music’s Up Next segment and is gaining traction from her new single “Ghost”. This will appear on her upcoming EP Golden Wings, and you can read more about it here.

Sufjan Stevens- “Revelations” album and visuals

Sufjan Stevens, one of my favorite artists (best known for his song “Mystery of Love”), is concocting his painstakingly detailed album, Convocations. This week, Stevens released multiple songs from “Revelations”, an avant garde, somewhat terrifying volume. Convocations, coming out digitally on May 6th, will be 49 tracks and spread over 5 volumes. Such volumes named Meditations (released on April 8th) are beautifully orchestrated and a tribute to his father’s recent death.

“Revelations” is another volume of Convocations, and revolves around lessons/themes from the Book of Revelation- not the most comforting of Bible chapters. I could write a whole essay over Stevens work, but I’ll keep it short- Attached below is one of the songs off the album, “Revelation II”

Dinosaur Jr. – album Sweep It Into Space

The most exciting part of the week (in my opinion) was a new album from the 80’s rock group Dinosaur Jr., titled Sweep It Into SpaceAfter 36 years, one split-up and 11 albums, this release seems to be their most “mainstream” album yet, which hopefully will be met applause and appreciation.

Snoop Dogg- new album From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites

In honor of 4/20, Snoop Dogg dropped his latest album From Tha Streets 2 That Suites. The album was meant as inspiration, or background music, for the holiday.

“Even Higher Together’, a virtual 420 celebration that featured artists like Jhene Aiko, Wiz Khalifa and more, and was sponsored by Weedmaps. This album just so happens to be his 18th studio album, and with song titles like “Left My Weed” and “Roaches in My Ashtray”, they revolve around cars, money, sex and of course, weed.

IDK and Offset- “SHOOT MY SHOT” single and music video

IDK and Migos member Offset team up on this newest single, which will be on IDK’s upcoming album USee4Yourself. The lyrics and beat aren’t necessarily complex, but both are still swanky and fun. My personal favorite lyric has to be Ass like a horse but her face like she wholesome“. The music video, just as all of IDK’s other music videos, was directed by him!

Paul McCartney- album McCartney III Imagined

Sir Paul McCartney and his team released a new imagined album that brings his unfinished business into a new generation. With features from Dominic Fike, Pheobe Bridgers, Josh Homme, Anderson. Paak and more, Sir McCartney reimagined and packaged himself to a generation that ought to be aware- and appreciate- his mastery of the music world.
