Olivia Rodrigo’s quick rise to fame is now matched with her first debut album, Sour. This poppy mix of raw teenage emotion is “a chaotic collection of breakup tunes filled with melancholy and mischief,” according to Pitchfork.
KiLLOWEN – “Blood Red”
Pop artist from London KiLLOWEN released “Blood Red” single and music video this week. KiLLOWEN describes his song as:
“It’s almost like a ‘feels so good, but hurts so bad’ situation. In a world where everyone feels like they have to be perfect, I wanted to outline that everyone fights their own battles, and that’s okay, because we’re all just taking it one step at a time.”
Stiff Pap “SASSA”
The South African duo Stiff Pap released “SASSA” along with the announcement of their new project, TUFF TIME$. “SASSA” stands for “South African Social Security Agency” and the song is centralized over the current state of South African government during the pandemic.
Lakou Mizik and Joseph Ray – “Ogou Pran Ka Mwen”
One of Haiti’s hottest groups, Lakou Mizik, collaborated with Joseph Ray on “Ogou Pran Ka Mwen”, which means “take care of me”. Its release was on an important date for Haitians (May 18th), as this is their Flag and Universities Day. This emotional, uplifting song and music video are included below and are worth a minute to listen to!
BTS – “Butter“
This week, hit group BTS released their second English song, “Butter”. They’re expected to perform “Butter” live in the 2021 Billboard Music Awards this Sunday.
Noomi – Life Aqua
The Swedish artist Amanda Börjeson, formally known as Noomi, released her debut EP Life Aqua. This release demonstrates the shifting periods in her life with a shifting range of sound. In an interview with Metal, Noomi says about her EP: “It’s a bit ecletic, but so am I and that’s how I like it.”
Wu-Lu – “Being Me”
London vocalist, multi-instrumentalist and producer Wu-Lu released his music video for “Being Me” this week. This indie-rocker takes layering into a music dreamscape with this new single.
