Cool off aftetr this hot week with our picks for Nü Music Friday:
Tigercub – As Blue As Indigo
After a long wait, Tigercub has released their second album As Blue As Indigo, which took a more experimental route for the group. All songs were written and produced by the band’s leader Jamie Stephen Hall, along with the talented Adrian Bushby and Tom Dalgety. Jamie Stephen Hall notes that the album’s inspiration is based on how subjective colors can be to each individual’s eye. He then furthered it by using this lens with topics like depression, toxic masculinity, suicide and other hard-to-grasp subjects, ultimately injecting new meaning into each and every one of them.
Tyler, The Creator – “LUMBERJACK”
This week Tyler, The Creator dropped the short but sweet “LUMBERJACK” for his eager, pre- IGOR fanbase. After leaving breadcrumbs of his upcoming work, Call Me If You Get Lost (June 25th), Tyler released the 1:18 long single that is about a blizzard coming through. You can read more about it here.
Mabel – “Let Them Know”
Mabel drew inspiration from watching RuPaul’s Drag Race and Paris Is Burning, Pose. While watching, Mabel took note of how dance music influenced expression, fashion and confidence; she decided to take a swing with “Let Them Know”, and ultimately made a great clubbing song.
Rebecca Black – Rebecca Black Was Here
After being thrown into the limelight just to be taken as a viral punchline, Rebecca Black is back with the album Rebecca Black Was Here. After years of trying to cash out and overcome the Friday sensation, the now-adult Black sings about dealing with breakups, coming out, growing up and understanding what defines her.
