Petra Jarrar has dropped her newest single “Rebel,” and her timing could not be more perfect. This NYC-based artist merges her synth-pop sound with a creative approach in this song and music video.
Jarrar’s inspiration for “Rebel” stemmed from a years’ worth of “anger and resentment, especially in the light of the murders of Breonna Taylor, Elijah McClain, Ahmad Arbery and others.” While her songwriting style is similar to stream-of-consciousness, Jarrar’s passion and pent-up emotion from this year’s events allowed this song to “become a catharsis for [her].”
Jarrar embraces her inner pop-diva-princess, but pulls in an even stronger message:
“Silence is violence, and it’s time to stand up for what we believe in and no longer watch quietly.”
“Rebel” was produced by Alex Arias. The music video was directed by Nicholas Keil and shot in Brooklyn, New York.
