Phoebe Bridgers adds “If We Make It Through December” to her holiday collection

Just last week, Phoebe Bridgers released her EP Copycat Killer which included four remastered, haunting versions of some songs off her “Punisher” album. Now, Bridgers is back in her haunted holiday spirit with a cover of “If We Make It Through December.”

“If We Make It Through December” is originally by country singer Merle Haggard. The song is rooted in the idea of just making it through the holiday season, and it’s perfectly redone by Bridgers to give an authentic holiday emotion- one that gets drowned out by peppy, annual Christmas hits. Bridger’s indie-eerie sound and the stripped-down piano really bring out Haggard’s deeper lyrics that were once lost in the cheery, country song.

This is the fourth holiday song she’s covered, and similar to the previous years, Bridgers will donate the proceeds from this cover. While she donated last year’s “7 O’Clock News/Silent Night” revenue to Planned Parenthood, this year Bridgers is donating to the Downtown Women’s Center in Los Angeles.
