Tyler, The Creator made a name for himself crafting violent, abrasive, sometimes brilliant rap songs, but back in 2017 something different happened. He put out one of the best albums of the year with Flower Boy, a work that seem to come out of nowhere for the artist. On it, he let go of what we all expected of him, and instead created a genuinely beautiful, more low key album. It sounded like he was being reborn again, and ready to take on an even wider audience.
Since it’s release, he’s been randomly dropping outtakes and unfinished singles. And he did some work for the soundtrack of last year’s Grinch reboot. But last week things started getting real again when the teasing for a new album began in earnest. Quickly, he made an official announcement for it. And now here it is.
Tyler, The Creator’s newest album is titled IGOR and is currently out across all the usual places. It features 12 new tracks featuring some notable guest writers like a Kanye West, Lil Uzi Vert, Al Green and others. Speaking about the album, in an abstract sense, Tyler shared out this statement:
So, get ready for some sort of new experience. Will it live up to the high quality of Flower Boy? We certainly hope so. But if not, at least Tyler’s out here doing what he does best: being himself.
This weekend, take some time to dive into the world of IGOR. Stream the full album down below.
