Korean singer Sunmi returned with her single “pporappippam” on June 29. Pporappippam is the Romanization of the Korean phrase for ‘purple night,’ a romantic sentiment that carries through the song.
The chill, upbeat song is highlighted by a stunning music video that opens with Sunmi dreaming on a mattress washed ashore, makes it way through glitz and glamour, and places her on a dazzling billboard.
This is the former Wonder Girls member’s second single of 2020, following “Gotta Go” in February. Because Sunmi’s past songs have “largely carried cynicism or ridicule of love,” Sunmi calls “pporappippam” her “first true love song” in an interview with Yonhap.
