Beginning in Japan and jumping all over the United States, Warped Tour’s Kevin Lyman announced 2018 will be the final year of the full tour. Since 1995, kids “couldn’t wait for the summer at the Warped Tour”, as written by Blink-182. Helping catapult both bands and non-profits into stardom, Warped Tour has served as a trampoline board for the music scene. Those who have both worked behind the scenes at the tour or played the stages have heavy hearts about the end of this era. Kevin Lyman stated “The Vans Warped Tour was the platform to witness the rise of pop punk with Sum 41, Simple Plan, MXPX, New Found Glory and Good Charlotte. The birth of Emo – with bands like Thrice, Thursday, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, The Starting Line, Motion City Soundtrack and Jimmy Eat World. Fast-forward to the summer in 2005 when TRL and Warped Tour helped launch the careers of Fall Out Boy, My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold.” Read his full statement here.
While the final Warped Tour will have a cloud of sadness around it, the lineup smashes sunlight back into the summer’s best tour (minus two bands who we won’t name).
