Tove Lo shares new single “Glad He’s Gone,” teases upcoming album

Tove Lo is finally back and ready to take on 2019 with her newest single “Glad He’s Gone.” The new track is the first to be shared from her upcoming fourth album Sunshine Kitty, which was officially announced today. The Swedish pop singer hasn’t released a new album since 2017’s Blue Lips (Lady Wood Phase II). And although that wasn’t too long ago, it’s really nice to have Tove Lo back in our ears with new music again.

“Glad He’s Gone” sticks true to the empowerment theme of its title, while also staying true to what makes Tove Lo such an engaging and fresh artist. It’s a breakup anthem, but one that chooses to celebrate the end of a relationship. Amidst the signature delivery of Tove Lo, we get biting lyrics and hard-hitting production from Shellback and Struts, all fusing together to craft a total Summer jam.

Speaking of the song’s theme, Tove Lo says:

”It’s about friendship and love. It’s the obligatory pep-talk you give your girlfriend when she’s going through a breakup. You’re reminding her she’s your partner-in-crime and showing unconditional support. It makes fun of the demands of being a good girlfriend and the dirty stuff you do just to make him confident. There’s a message to it. I’m telling a real story that I think girls need to hear. You want to know your friends are there for you during a breakup. It’s about all the fun you can have after heartbreak.”

Even though “Glad He’s Gone” is ushering in the album cycle for Sunshine Kitty, details remain fairly scant at the moment. All we know is that it’s coming out this year. And we’re likely to find out precisely when soon enough. While we wait on that, Tove Lo has also shared some words about the album’s overall intention and sound:

”[Sunshine Kitty] is a play on pussy power, but it’s a happy, positive way of seeing it. It ties in with the lynx. This cartoon cat (featured on the artwork) is an extension of me and part of the new music. She’s super cute, but she does stupid shit like getting in fights and getting fucked up. It’s how I feel the album sounds.”
