Weezer gave in to peer pressure and covered Toto’s “Africa”

Forget what they taught you in school, kids – cyberbullying is an effective tool.

That’s assuming of course that your goal is a cover of “Africa” and the victim of your keyboard is Weezer.

Early in December 2017, one very passionate Twitter account tweeted a polite request to the band to give the people what they wanted: a cover of Toto’s greatest song.

In true internet fashion, the innocent request snowballed into months of harassment.

Finally, the band gave in.

First they delivered a cover of Toto’s “Rosanna”, which, while appreciated, is not what the people were really after. The rendition was given a thumbs up by Toto’s Steve Lukather, however, so that’s something.

Eventually, Weezer succumbed to the will of the people and delivered the goods (plus some memes):

The moral of the story? Your dreams are achievable (as long as you’re incredibly persistent and can appeal to the internet’s insatiable love for Toto’s “Africa”).

Next month Weezer will be kicking off a massive summer co-headlining tour, and you can bet your crappy wifi connection that they’ll be playing some Toto. Find out where you can catch the action here.
